Wireless communication has been developing rapidly in recent years. Antenna as the indispensable part of wireless communication equipment, is designed for miniaturization, broadband and multi-band. Based on the characteristics of the artificial magnetic conductor (AMC), the design of low-profile antenna elements for base station, dipole antenna and antenna arrays has been presented in this paper.A low-profile antenna consisting of two open-loop rectangle is designed based on AMC reflector with open-loop rectangular structure. The measured results indicated that the antenna has the relative bandwidth over 40% and the gain in range of 7.3-8.5dBi.Through simulating and comparing in terms of VSWR of antenna with 4 kinds of typical AMC reflctor structure, the performance of dipole antenna loaded loop AMC reflector is better than the others. On the basis of the above, a low-profile dipole antenna and dipole antenna arrays based on loop AMC structure is proposed. The measured results showed that the dipole antenna has the relative bandwidth of 39.2% and the gain in range of 7.5-9.5dBi,1×2 dipole array has the relative bandwidth of 44.1% and the gain in range of 7.6-11.8dBi,2×2 dipole array has the relative bandwidth was 45.8% and the gain in range of 7.5-12.5dBi. The above index meets the design requirements.
