Artificial magnetic conductor can be regarded as perfect magnetic surface at the frequency of equivalent resonance point,and electromagnetic wave has the effect of phase enhancement in the reflection band gap.Design of varies of low-profile antennas or high-gain directional antennas will consider to be optimized by introducing the artificial magnetic conductor structure based on the above advantage.For the artificial magnetic conductor can realize the electromagnetic characteristic which other materials can't perform,this has drawn the concern of majority of scholars.Firstly,a variety of artificial magnetic conductor elements are analyzed,and characteristics of every element are achieved in this article.Secondly,three types of elements' stability is investigated in circumstances of different angles and different polarization.Then the parameters' effect of the artificial magnetic conductor's hexagon ring on reflection phase band gap is analyzed,and rules of the element's parameters' effect on antenna's performances are obtained.The designed reflector reflects in-phase in the frequency band of 2.73GHz~5.62 GHz.In order to improve the directional gain of the coplanar waveguide feeding antenna,the reflector on the other side of the antenna is applied.Besides,the antenna should also have a wide bandwidth,then it is necessary to research the antenna with artificial magnetic conductor profoundly.Then design of antenna and artificial magnetic conductor are performed.Characteristics of higher gain and lower profile of the antenna is required.Antenna is placed upon the three lines of three columns reflector which consists of artificial magnetic conductor elements and simulated.Simulation results indicate that the antenna less than-10 d B bandwidth is 4.38GHz~5.42 GHz and relative bandwidth is 21% which has satisfied the requirement of 1GHz.Gains of the antenna are 9.62 d B,9.83 d B and 9.73 d B respectively in frequencies of 4.6GHz,4.9GHz and 5.2GHz.The antenna's gain raises to 6d B when the distance of antenna and reflector is quarter of the wavelength.To compare the optimized reflector of the artificial magnetic conductor and the traditional metal surface,the antenna achieves a low profile whose height is eighth of the wavelength and the antenna's gain is also greatly improved.Lastly,its prototype is fabricated and measured.Measured results indicate that the antenna's-10 d B bandwidth is 4.35GHz~5.35 GHz and relative bandwidth is 20.61%.Gains of the antenna are 8.53 d B,8.62 d B and 8.10 d B respectively in frequencies of 4.6GHz,4.9GHz and 5.2GHz.Measured and simulated results are in good agreement.
