The Wireless Mesh network's(WMN) advantages of self-organization and centerless let it has a very wide range of application prospects, nevertheless a lot of wireless Mesh network application scenario do not use a fixed power supply but a battery power supply, such as in the rescue, emergency communication, etc. The battery power is always limited, which makes the energy become an important factor of restricting its development. So it is necessary to research the energy saving technology in wireless Mesh network.Firstly, this paper introduces the definition and architecture of wireless Mesh network, the classification of the wireless Mesh network energy saving technology and energy saving technology development present situation. Main work has the following three aspects:(1) Studying the existing MAC protocols of wireless Mesh networks and energy saving mechanism. The research of wireless Mesh network protocol focuses on the MAC lower key technologies, including the superframe structure, the details of MAC frame, distributed reservation protocol and prioritized contention access, and mainly studied the energy saving mechanism in the wireless Mesh network.(2) Designing and implementing wireless Mesh network energy saving mechanism. On the basis of the above research, the paper designed a set of MAC protocol of wireless Mesh network which is suitable for "special carrying LTE network gateway", and which is implemented with the DSP core of the software defined radio baseband chip SB3500. The implementation is divided into five modulars:the frame processing module of the interface between MAC layer, the MAC scheduler, the MPI interface module, the energy saving control module. After integration and alignment with MAC upper layer and PHY layer, realizes the system of WMN and shows the result, achieving the purpose of energy-saving with the energy-saving control module.(3) Putting forward a kind of power control algorithm which is applicable to the wireless Mesh network. The algorithm based on convex optimization theory, it transforms the allocation problem with rate, length and power in wireless Mesh network frame into an energy-saving network utility maximization problem. The algorithm connects the network utility and the energy consumption making the network utility maximum and receiving energy saving at the same time. The MATLAB simulation results show that the algorithm can reduce the signal power and don't influence the network utility.
