The optimal node deployment problem is one of the key and fundamental issues in the research field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), and the quality of the deployment has a direct bearing on the follow-up work performance, QoS and efficiency of sensor networks. Study works on wireless sensor networks deployment (coverage problem) have transferred from the traditional two-dimensional plain coverage to the three-dimensional space coverage. Currently growing body of research focused on the three-dimensional complex space coverage which has great practical and theoretical value, especially the three-dimensional complex surface coverage. It's a wise choice to solve the NP complete problem through artificial intelligence algorithms. The optimal node deployment problem of wireless sensor networks is tend to be equal to optimal coverage problem, that is how to deployment right(minimum) number of node to complete the coverage of target area. This paper makes in-depth analysis and discussion on the problems of how to economically and effectively deploy a wireless sensor networks in a complex three-dimensional environment with the intelligent optimization algorithm. For the most important influencing factors of optimal deployment (node sensing model), it also has a related design and implementation. Finally, a method based on chemical reaction optimization algorithm is presented to solve the problem, and improved in follow-up work. MATLAB based Simulations verify the efficiency of the model and methods on coverage and connectivity.
