3D printing, a member of rapid prototyping, previously known as additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping at the time of its invention in 1980s, is developing fast with the development of industrial technology.Laser 3D printing, a branch of 3D printing, uses laser as the tool to manufacture solid components. The study of laser 3D printing control system has significance of reducing the costs, improving the process and popularizing the technology of laser 3D printing. The design of laser 3D printing is treated with its hardware and software aspects in this treatise.First of all, the design of laser scanning system and powder laying system are based on open numerical control mode, which controls the hardware of the laser 3D printing control system and uses PC and controller.The cost-effective controller has been selected.So this 3D printing control system has a higher cost performance than the one which uses the controller abroad.By applying the SWEBOK (software engineering body of knowledge) method and adjusting to the laser 3D printing system, the basic-functional modules are designed on the foundation of its hardware. Software is compiled with the C#. Therefore controls are easier to implement and the software programming time can be decreased. The software interface is more beautiful and friendly than the interface of the traditional industrial software which programmed by C++ or VB. Because of the security of C# language,the system is reliable and safe. Using SWEBOK software development methods and designing software by C# programming language not only save the labor cost, but also improve the system's performance, so that the software system of this 3D printing control system is cost-effective.The contour filling module, the core module of this laser 3D printing software, has been realized through improvement of the conventional horizontal scan-line filling algorithm, based on analysing of the regular contour filling algorithm, core of data processing and determiner of quality of the component manufactured. To avoid laser scanning the place where contour and scan-line are met repeatedly while manufacturing, the contour was shifted inwards to the solid components before filling the offset contour according to the scan-line set in advance. This algorithm modified the insertion of contour and filling line and can fill the contour with different dip angles.
