Chaff is a kind of widely used passive jamming in modern war. With the expansion of battlefield, the outer space nowadays plays a significant role in modern war which offers chaff a new stage to compete against ground-based radar. Because of the tough environment for space chaff to be researched through experiments, model-research is of great value. According to this, the motion and scatter models of chaff clouds are studied in this thesis. And a series of models are obtained.Firstly, the motion and diffusion characteristics of chaff clouds are studied. With the force analysis of a single chaff in outer space, the motion model is acquired through Mote-Carlo method. A series of simulation results are presented. And with the motion model, the average distance of chaff cloud is studied.Secondly, the Radar Cross Section characteristic of chaff cloud is studied. RCS model of a single chaff is acquired through Method of Moment. And the coupling effect which varies with distance between two chaffs is studied. The average distance of ignoring the coupling effect is obtained. With the average distance study of chaff cloud, the method to calculate chaff cloud's RCS is obtained. And a series of simulation results are presented.Lastly, the x-band radar models for space chaff are studied. The method to calculate chaff amount within a radar cell is obtained. And the chaff-amount decay model is obtained. Based on this model, the RCS decay model is also obtained. And the feasibility of RCS decay model is analysis though a series of comparisons with simulation data. In the last, the covering time of space chaff for missile is analyzed.
