In recent years, along with the rapid development of social production, and the increased of demand of social and public security, video surveillance application is extended to everywhere. It is applied to lots of filed, such as the popular Green City, community policing monitoring, tourist attractions surveillance, forest fire prevention, and industrial production. It has significance for economy, national defense and public security. With the development of the Internet of things, digital home has become an emerging technology, making more comfortable, more secure living environment, becoming a hot topic of current research.With the rapid development of wireless networks, it has a extend application in real life. Transporting the multimedia data with wireless networks, because of the unique advantage that without constraints of environment, it makes this technology has good prospects. The wireless video surveillance get rid of the wired limitations, with strong scalability and easy to install, as while as eliminating the cost and difficulties of wiring. Meanwhile, the development of the digital home, promoting the development of family intelligent gateway, intelligent gateway can already equivalent to a PC, such as the ARMs. Developing software on embedded motherboards will greatly enhance the integration of intelligent gateway.This paper introduces the wireless video surveillance related research background and development status and trends at home and abroad. By comparison, advantages and disadvantages are analyzed, design and implement with video surveillance and voice intercom can be applied to a digital-based family of embedded wireless video monitoring system. This paper introduces the design and implementation of the wireless video surveillance system, the video and audio data are transported in Wi-Fi network, transfer protocol using TCP and RTSP. The design of this system is based on IP Camera and embedded platform. The system realized the video surveillance and voice intercom, and this paper has a preliminary study about intelligent video surveillance and video capture. The video data is decoded by the M-JPEG standard, and ADPCM is used to encode and decode the audio data. In this system, the information of IP Camera is saved in database of MySQL. The wireless video surveillance system can be used for security monitoring in digital home.
