Smart home involves a variety of techniques, including network technology, energy management control technology, and information communication technology, etc. Having intellectualized the traditional home appliances, it can receive people's remote instruction and adjust the parameters automatically according to the actual environment. In the recent two years, the booming emergence of the Internet of Things and Mobile Internet leads to a great development in smart home. However, there are still some problems, such as wiring confusion, poor scalability and single communication mode. To a certain extent, these problems affect the rapid development of smart home.This paper takes smart home system as the object of the research. To address the problems of the traditional smart home, a new design scheme for smart home system based on OpenWrt is proposed after understanding and analyzing the research status of smart home. In the proposed scheme, a variety of techniques such as ZigBee, Internet of Things, Wireless LAN and Mobile Internet are integrated to the smart home system.The design idea of the system is to design a hardware platform, flash system firmware and develop Android client program. It provide the main interface for managing the smart home system and achieve the functions of system firmware customizing, environmental monitoring, home appliances controlling, video surveillance, etc. The main research contents of this paper are summarized as below.Firstly, we make a survey about smart home including the background, significance and related implementation technology. We determine what functions the smart home we designed should achieve. Then, we select the overall design scheme for smart home system including determining the design framework of the hardware and software and decomposing the work elements to implement.Secondly, we design a hardware platform. We draw the schematics of smart home terminal hardware platforms by using circuit board design tool. Then we solder and debug the circuit board. To achieve the centralized control of home devices, the intelligent terminal integrates wireless router and ZigBee gateway.Thirdly, we develop the software systems. We build an embedded Linux environment, customize smart home system firmware and write software programs which include ZigBee communications, infrared remote control home appliances, Android-based clients programs and communication protocol between different modules. Ultimately, the system realizes the functions of system firmware customizing, environmental monitoring, home appliances controlling, video surveillance and mobile client management, etc.Finally, we test the system function and operation status of hardware platform. The results show that the smart home system based on OpenWrt has high stability, strong expansibility. This system supports WiFi and ZigBee and realizes the functions as below: system firmware customizing, environmental monitoring, home appliances controlling, video surveillance and mobile client management, etc. The experimental results are consistent with our anticipative aim well. According to the current situation of smart home, the system aims at providing a feasible design plan to improve people's quality of life. And it has a certain market value and research significance.
