In the research and development of wireless communication system, antenna is one of the indispensable key components. Currently, smart urban construction, networking project implementation and continuous upgrading of mobile communication terminals promote the rapid development of wireless communication technology. In order to meet the diversity need of wireless communications, miniaturization and multiband has become a new direction of antenna design.This paper studies the miniaturization and multiband antenna design methods of wireless communication system. Upon depth study of microstrip monopole antenna theory, discusses the small and multiband antenna design methods commonly used, designs three miniaturization and multi-band monopole microstrip antenna each with different characteristics. Then carried on the simulation analysis and experimental research.Of the three miniaturization multiband microstrip monopole antenna this paper designs, one is a kind of four-section and three-frequency ring microstrip monopole antenna having relatively wide bandwidth with a round radiation patch, another one is a three-frequency ring microstrip monopole antenna having lower returning loss containing the flower-shape radiation patch, the last one is a flower-shape multi-frequency microstrip monopole antenna containing a circular radiation patch which can realize frequency reconfigurable.Three antennas all adopt the grounding arch structure with circular defects, thereby gaining a good impedance matching and bandwidth. In addition, the three new antennas have the characteristics of high gain, whose omnidirectional of radiation direction diagram is fine. They all qualify the feature of small size, simple feed way, and easy to process and integration etc. All can work together at the same time in the frequency band of 2.4 GHz bluetooth, 2.4 GHz / 5.8 GHz radio frequency identification(RFID), 2.4 GHz / 5.2 GHz / 5.8 GHz wireless local area network(WLAN) and 2.5 GHz / 3.5 GHz / 5.5 GHz communication frequency band of global microwave wireless Internet(WiMAX).Three antenna mentioned above are manufactured and tested, the results show that the antenna simulations are in good agreement with the test measured, three new antenna can all satisfy the technical requirements of the wireless communication system.
