Design And Implementation Of Scientific Project Management System Based On Workflow Engine

Key laboratories in University can play an important role in the scientific research, mainly due to a fixed research strategies formed by a research organizational model which is different from the traditional individual combat. Under this background, it is necessary to establish a scientific research items management system which is applicable to the key laboratory in University. Laboratory researchers need to submit declaration documents to school project managers before they start new projects. Meanwhile, school project managers need to approve the request. This process can be implemented by Workflow Engine, which can raise the efficiency very much.The origin and development status of Workflow Engine technology were discussed in detail, as well as the workflow technology and other related concepts in this paper. Meanwhile, this paper gives a brief description about the problems of workflow management system in the practical application. This paper applies the Petri Nets to model the operation flow of scientific research items management system, and adopts SSH2 and JBPM which is an open-source engine to develop the system in the respect of technology. This system can be used in the application of the project in middle-small colleges.The main contents in this paper are as follows: firstly, the engine process definition model was established, which is the theoretical basis of the workflow engine, and it offers the possibility to achieve the scientific research items management system. Secondly, it gives a detailed design focusing on the scientific research supporting the project management system. process model using the Petri nets for colleges and universities was built in this paper, also open source workflow engine-JBPM was used to achieve the maintenance of business process model and process. Finally, a real research management systems was established, using JBPM lightweight workflow engine to design this specific business process of "project application and approval".This can explain the working principle and practicality of JBPM, which is a lightweight workflow management system.
