With the developing of the passive millimeter wave technology, the metal target detection has significant applications in military reconnaissance, remote sensing, security checks and so on. The passive millimeter wave detection technology which work all-weather and all-time has strong capability to identify the metal targets. For this method, there is no need to transmit any signal, and the detection equipment is easy to carry and set up, which leads to good concealment performance. The detection of Stealth target and the research of terminal sensitive missile have been more and more important. Therefore, the study on passive millimeter wave detection for metal target which has been considered as a supplementary means has a significant research value and strong application prospects.First of all, the relevant knowledge of the passive millimeter wave detection was introduced, and the detectable of metal target was analyzed. Then the method of similar shrinkage which simplified the strict experimental condition was introduced. In order to calculate the radiation of the passive millimeter wave, the ray-tracing method was introduced. The radiation of the passive millimeter wave simulated analysis of metal half-sphere target and metal plane target obtained the accurate calculation results. The experimental verification of the ray-tracing method indicated that the ray-tracing method was correct. Finally, in consideration of the radiation of solid metal target and atmosphere, detection schemes of solid metal target and exhaust plume target was established. The detection schemes studied the probability of detection under the different height. The research of the thesis provided the theoretical foundation for the study of the radiation of passive millimeter wave of solid metal target and aerial target.
