Techniques developed to beyond analogue i.e. Digital Manufacturing Techniques and allied advanced testing methods are of great importance to Flexible Manufacturing System(FMS). Advanced automated production techniques are already being fully applied to FMS, however in-process meausurement and detection is generally not as thorough as it could be. Also, as any technology application is dependent on training and 'present knowledge' and experience, additional instruction and course-work pays much attention to Engineering Training FMS(ET-FMS), from which we can see that to integrate size detection systems into ET-FMS is quite neccesary.The paper develops a highly flexible optical mechanical and digital electronic dimensional inspection system to make up and implement the often present deficiency of ET-FMS nowadays. Being an essential sub-system of ET-FMS, the dimensional detection systems integrate structured light measurement systems, Geomagic Qualify platform and CNC equipment, realizing size detection and analysis of different components.In this article, critical areas of optimal exposure time, along with filter and polarizer, are used to measure machined parts. In the course of developing the detection system, CNC type controls and placement are essential when locating the test camera. Reference Points are used to realize the registration of measurement data. Through secondary development of 'Geomagic Qualify', the technique can achieve a flexible auto detection of many differing dimensions. By designing a custom protocol Socket Communications module, the detection system is able to coordinate and integrate with flexible production lines. Thus realized, the resultant data is able to be checked from the information platform.The dimensional detection system has been tested with diverse parts for integrity and repeatability and accepted by the facility here at xuzhou colloge of industrial technology. Applied to real-time operation, the system looks likely to be used in professional training for teachers and college students. The test results show that the proposed design is valid and effective with repeatable and stable performance, which achieved good practical results.
