The paper researched the machine part Automated Vision Inspection basing on Computer Vision theory and using computer image processing technology, developed the software processing system which can measure the size and inspect the surface quality of machine part and actualize Real-time Image acquisition and displaying only with USB camera by Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0.Through the system the following image processing function can be done: Turning the multicolor image into black and white image, Histogram equalization, median filtering, average filtering, Edge detection, image segmentation, etc. By the result of image segmentation the system can calculate the real size of the part. The result of the experiment is perfect.In the paper Gradient Edge detection, Robert Edge detection and Sobel Edge detection were used to the Edge detection of the machine part.After a lot of image segmentation experiment were done with different lighting and background. The rule of the influence of the lighting and background on the Binary image was brought forward. The paper point out that the rule can be used to the part surface quality inspection.
