As the exploration of the physical world become more and more deep, the demand for gaining the information of environment and location is growing. How to efficiently implement environmental monitoring and objects positioning become the urgent problem need to be solved. The emergence of wireless sensor network provides new thoughts for solving the above problem. This paper, by using ZigBee technology to design the indoor wireless sensor positioning system, aims at providing the system prototype for a smart home or complex industrial monitoring and control system. This system has realized two major functions: the real-time monitoring of environment and positioning of the object in the indoor environment.Firstly this paper analyzed the system's requirements and proposed the technical parameters. By discussing the characteristics of ZigBee, we analyzed the feasibility of ZigBee technology used in indoor environment. The overall scheme, including the hardware's selection and the definition of function module, has been designed.Secondly, we developed the program of upper computer and lower computer respectively. Considering the different characteristics of coordinator, router and end device in the wireless sensor network, the operating mode and energy-saving mode have been designed, which make the wireless network perform sensing, positioning data collected and transmitted. The upper program including user management module, wireless network management module, node management module, sensor module, position module, database module, has been developed in the environment of Visual Studio 2010.Finally, experimental platform has been set up, the basic tests and functional tests have been completed. In view of the system's positioning error, we analyzed the cause of error and put forward the corresponding improvement measures. The experiment has proved that the system could meet the design requirements and complete sensing and positioning function successfully in the indoor environment.
