With the rapid development of automotive industry, the competition of traditional hemming technology is gradually losing. The roller hemming technology with Robot, which started at the end of 20 th century, is becoming a hot research for its huge advantages of high flexibility,low manufacturer cost, short production cycle, small area and so on.The parameters of this new hemming technology which started early and supported by automotive industry in foreign have been improved with rapid development. Because of our backward industry technology and insufficient innovation ability, robot roller hemming technology is still researching in our country. The many standards of this technology are not yet formulated. This produces various quality defects, such as wrinkle, roll-in/roll-out,springback.The paper introduces this hemming technology in brief. Meanwhile, the article researches the construction of robot roller hemming system and introduces the popular software Robcad for building movement locus in detail. To study the principles of the wrinkle produced in roller hemming process, in this paper, the model of the flat surface-line edge sheet and rollers were built and simulated with FE method. Based on the analysis of the wavelet of cause, we combined with the mechanism of forming and then built the finite element mold. The computed results showed that the size of wavelet has tie with the diameter roller, the TCP-RTP distance, the die radius of flanging process. Finally, compared with the date, we got the different effect on the size of wavelet between pre-hemming and hemming. This provides reference for research of robot roller hemming.
