The Group Work Involved In The Adjustment Of Depression Among Elderly Residents In The Old Age Group

In the twenty-first century,the aging process of C hinese society has been intensified,resulting in the transformation of population structure,triggering the transformation of Chinese people’s pension concept from traditional "home care" to "institutional pension".However,C hina’s social pension services started late,the old-age insurance system is not perfectly established and the endowment institution lacks of professional service team.As a result,the pension institutions can only offer basic daily care to the elderly,but psychological counseling and emotional support and other related services are not available.This leads to more and more elderly people in pension institutions getting depressed.This research is mainly based on the author’s internship experience in the B community elderly apartment in Yingkou,Liaoning Province.Through the long-term communication with the elderly in the apartment,life observation and scale test,I find that the elderly living in the apartment have some depression.In view of this situation,the group work method in social work methods is implemented on the intervention of the depressed elderly through 6 group activities,which breaks the barriers among t he old people,establishesemotions among the elderly which promots integration to the collective apartment,and enhances the old people’s self-confidence and joy of life,so as to alleviate the old people’s depression.In this paper,through the analysis a nd evaluation of the group work process and results,the feasibility of alleviate the elderly’s depression through group work is discussed to provide reference and guidance for the future social work for the elderly,hoping for the elderly living in institutions to meet the spiritual needs of life,and enhancing the quality of them in pension institutions.
