The administration of ethnic minority boarding students is a long and difficult task,which requires not only the care from the school leaders but also the headteachers’ capabilities in administration.In view of this special situation,it should be very significant to analyze the problems in headteachers managing the ethnic minority students in boarding schools,based on which corresponding measures are put forward.The author,based on his own experience in managing rural boarding school students,employs literature review,questionnaire,and interview to investigate the current status of management ethnic minority students.The study shows that the headteachers have difficulties communicating with the students’ parents;students are potentially not safe on the weekends;some features of ethnic students are difficult to deal with;ethnic students are ease to drop out;ethnic students have irregular schedule for rest and study;some problems still exit in the course of reorganizing the class.It is suggested that the problems are attributed to headteachers’ insufficient responsibility,their failure to directing students to plan the time after school,short of face to face communication with students and concern about students,the lack of relevant rules and regulations for administrating ethnic minority boarding students,and the over workload of some headteachers.In view of the present situation,the paper puts forward that the headteachers should change his or her role,pay attention to the psychological and all round development of the ethnic minority boarding students,organize ethnic cultural and physical activities,enrich the students’ extracurricular life,connect with students’ parents,take joint efforts with other teachers the working staff of the dorm,establish education network for the students,set up relevant rules and regulations,properly arrange students’ time etc.so as to provide certain reference for the administrating boarding students in ethnic minority areas.
