Joseph D.Novak first proposed the terminology,concept map,as a strategy for organizing and representing the knowledge,in Cornell University in American.It is put forward based on Ausubel's meaningful learning theories.First,concept map is a teaching method,it was proved that can improve meaningful learning and help students learning to learn.Then concept map is a representation method,it presents some concepts and describes the relationship between them by using a “map”.This experiment used to explore the application of concept map in English reading teaching in junior high school.The researcher uses the quantitative and qualitative methods to research the effect of the use of concept map on the subjects' English reading comprehension and the changes of the subjects' use of strategies in English reading.From September,2017 to November,2017,the researcher picks two regular classes of grade 8 in Shenyang Hongqiao Junior High School as the experimental subjects,with 52 students in the experimental class and 54 students in the control class.The situation of two classes are almost same,such as the teacher,the reading texts and the time of students' reading,except for the teaching strategies.The experimental class uses the concept map as teaching and learning strategy,but the control class uses the traditional teaching strategy during the whole experiment.Two questionnaires will be given in the experiment.A questionnaire is carried out before the experiment to collect the relevant test data.Its aim to investigate the application of students' reading strategies.At last,another questionnaire is given out to compare.with the last one to get the results of students' application of reading strategies.After that,twelve students from different level in the experimental class is invited to make an interview about the influence of concept map.The results of this experiment presents that concept map can promote students to do with English reading strategies and enhance their English reading proficiency.So concept map should be introduced to more teachers to learn and use.
