A Study On The Relationship Between Modernization And Cultural Heritage Of The Jing Ethnic Group

Modernization is an unavoidable trend along with the social development in China's modern history.Although the specific goals of modernization may vary from each other in different historical periods,the original intention to pursue national independence,prosperity and strength has never been changed.China has achieved a quantum leap in developing modernization since the establishment of People's Republic of China.Especially after the reform and opening-up policy was implemented,the accomplishment of first period of modernization has been basically fulfilled and also the second period already started.China,as the second largest economy in the world in terms of the Gross Domestic Product(GDP),has reached the standard of the medium-developed countries.As an important part of the whole family,Chinese ethnic groups also face up with urgent task in modernization.However,the process of modernization and the inheritance of ethnic culture may conflict with each other in some cases.The Jing ethnic group uniquely owes the features of both cross-border and marine ethnicity.The Jing people have created rich and distinctive ethnic culture during the long term living and productive practice near the sea,including the culture in material,system and spirit.In addition,compared to the other groups,the Jing ethnic group has reached relatively higher standard of modernization in various aspects,such as in the area of the people's participation in the state affairs,the building of basic infrastructure,culture,education,living standard or the industrial development.During the course of modernization,the culture of the Jing ethnic group has been not just inherited but also updated and developed.A virtuous circle has been formed between modernization and the cultural heritage.Therefore,it is worthwhile for other ethnic groups to learn the practice of the Jing people in the area of ethnic modernization.The writer believes,because of the balance among modernization,local environments and resources,a virtuous circle between modernization and cultural heritage could be build.On the other hand,these local environments and resources are the major source to foster the traditional culture of the Jing ethnic group.Furthermore,the close relationship between modernization and ethnic culture boosts the development on both sides.At the end of the paper,the writer offers some advices to promote further ethnic cultural development for the Jing ethnic group.
