In this paper, through the interpretation of the text of Confucianism and Taoism published by Max Weber,a famous German sociologist,we are discussing about Weber's research on Chinese religious issues, especially Weber's comment on the Confucian ethics. The performance of Weber in the "Confucianism and Taoism" is always be called "the greatest outsider."Reflections on the East Asian economy since the 1960s and China's development and reform policy, china has become the world's second largest economy. The Confucian cultural circle in East Asia take one hundred years to complete the economic status of the reversal. It's a practical blow to Weber's Chinese proposition. This paper starts from the reality of East Asian economy boom and the reality that China has become an economic power, try to discover the real value of Weber's Chinese proposition to contemporary China and whether China's further economic development needs the traditional culture of China as a reserve force. We use the literature research to study Weber's writings and relevant historical data,to extend Weber's comparative sociology and ideology, and to analyze the contents of Weber's works through rational and traditional comparative research,And we do the the classification of institution and culture for the rationalism and traditionalist factors emerged in Chinese society just to prevent the emergence of cultural determinism and religious determinism. In the first, this paper analyzes the basis of Weber's Chinese society.According to the institutional-cultural framework, the institutional basis of Chinese society is composed of five aspects:monetary system, city and guild, bureaucratic bazaar, clan organization and village autonomy, family property system. And then discuss the cultural point of Confucianism and Taoist ethical concepts. This is the main content of this article. And then classify the rational part of the development of capitalist spirit and the traditional part which is not conducive to the development of capitalist spirit in the system, and cultural part of Chinese social foundation. Finally,we list the conclusion of Weber's conclusion in "Confucianism and Taoism" and the view of related scholars, and put forward our own conclusion that Confucian ethics can play a role in the development of contemporary China.Weber's conclusion in Confucianism and Taoism:Confucianism and Puritanism both are rationalism. The difference is that Confucian rationalism is secular and adapting to reality.Puritan rationalism is born and dominated.Puritan rationalism emphasize the transformation of the world, and they are more innovative. He believes that the ethics advocated by Confucianism leads to the general sense of distrust in economic life.Confucian ethics can not meet the trust contract needed in the process of economic and social development, which limits the economic development.Confucian economic relations mostly based on the relationship between kinship.Confucian lack the way of bookkeeping and other ways to regulate their own life.Including the ideal image of the gentleman and other "inner saints, outside king" self-cultivation effort.Confucian do not attach importance to natural science knowledge and fuzzy behavior standards are the signs of lacking rationalization of Confucianism.Bureaucratic system, family organizations and other powerful traditional forces prevent any innovation. All administrative and power operations are to adapt and maintain the existing order of the function, resulting in social life is full of conservative, superstitious tradition, also prevented the development of capitalism.Weber's conclusion in Confucianism and Taoism is that Confucian ethics hindered the development of China's capitalist economy. This paper examines the views of Chinese sociologists Su Guoxun,Li Meng,GuZhonghua and Du Weiming,Cheng Zhongying and other new Confucian representatives.Confucian ethics is indeed not conducive to China's economic and social development side, such as institutional rigidity, bureaucratic corruption, attention to nepotism, etc. But it is not desirable. The ethical concept of Confucian ethics and the emphasis on honesty and ethics are conducive to strengthening the construction of economic ethics and standardizing the economic and social order. The "rational cage" in the western capitalist society makes the society tend to atomize,And the rapid development of China's economy over the past century can further deny the modernization of Western centrism.Non-Western regions can rely on their own modern discourse of modern transformation, even beyond the Western world. The process of modernization is not a single line, the local culture in the modernization process of the injection can help their society even face the transformation can also be stable development, and China's traditional Confucian culture itself is a transformation. The study of Chinese traditional Confucian culture can specify the direction of the modernization process of contemporary China.
