Study On The Service Of Private Autism Institution

Autism,also known as “cancer” in mental disorders,could never be cured for unknown cause.In China,the prevalence rate of autism is about 1%,which suggests that the number of autistic patients is probably more than 10 million including over 2 million children patients aged 0 to 14.As the demands for rehabilitation training of autism are increasing and the public rehabilitation training resources are seriously insufficient,the private institutions for autistic patients have got a chance to develop rapidly.This article use qualitative method,take K as case study to explore how this private rehabilitation training institution(K)influences those autistic people by giving a thick description of the service in the K.Meanwhile,I also hope the approaches of social work could be adapted to this institution to help those people who are suffering from autism more effectively.The study found that the service concept and service model of K institution introduced the rehabilitation theory of the frontier of the autism industry,which mainly supported the concept of life and the ecological service mode,and got the recognition of autistic parents and the praise of autism.K institutions,under the life support philosophy and eco-service mode,provide services such as ageold ABA rehabilitation training,for young coaching classes;for school-age children is special education assistanttraining;for post school age autistic is day care services,vocational skills training and employment support services;for parents are parenting skills training,parental psychological support services;for teachers are services specializedtraining and research and developmentrelated.K institution’s service plays a great role in the autism rehabilitation industry: first,it provides a professional ABA rehabilitation service for autistic patients.Second,it provides a respite service for the parents of autistic families and builds parents’ social support networks.Third,it can deliver professional ABA rehabilitation technical personnel to the autism rehabilitation industry,help training autism rehabilitation teachers team.Fourth,it expands the social influence of autism,making the society more inclusive and receptive to autistic people.K institution also has potential developing space.Integrating social work into the service of Kinstitution can help it solve the problems of management and administration.By taking advantage of the strengths of social work discipline,the institution can narrow the gap between the idealmode of service and actual service.In addition,social work can engage parents more,offer better service for autistic people so that autistic people can feel loved and cared and more integratedinto family community and society.
