| The thesis aims to make a comparative analysis about Go for it published by People’s Education Press and Side by Side published by Shanghai Foreign Education Press from the perspective of grammar items,the type of grammar exercises and the type of grammar exercises for the same grammar items.Then the author intends to analyze the data based on students’ learning interest.Furthermore,the author analyzes students’ and teachers’ questionnaires.By the comparative analysis,the following features of grammar exercise design are found in the two textbooks in concern: 1)The grammar items are involved in tenses,nouns,adjectives,adverbs,prepositions,simple sentences,simple questions,special questions,and so on;2)There are more than ten types of grammar exercises in the two sets of textbooks,but it is still hard to stimulate students’ learning interest for English grammar because the answer for most grammar exercises is fixed and the open-ended activity is minor;3)Based on the classification of grammar exercises from Paulston and Bruder,there are more meaningful exercises in Go for it,and there are more mechanical exercises in Side by Side;4)From the questionnaires,most of the teachers and students who use Go for it or Side by Side are not very satisfied with the design of grammar exercises.Besides,they hope that the design of grammar exercises can do some changes.In the end,the author has given some suggestions about the design of grammar exercises.And the English textbook editors should fully consider students’ learning interest and make the type of grammar exercises more various in order to enable more students to learn English better. |
