Purpose of research:In this paper,the author conducts surveys about professional development of senior high school PE teachers in Rudong County.The research and analyses are done from the following aspects involving senior high school PE teachers' professional development: teaching and research,workload,teaching staff construction,title structure,free time arrangement,their awareness and competence of autonomous professional development,approaches and restraining factors.This paper is intended to give reference for the professional development of senior high school PE teachers,thus improvingoverall quality of senior high school PE teachers in Rudong County and promoting PE teaching quality in schools.Research methods:In this paper,the author conducts surveys about senior high school PE teachers' professional development,analyses what has been found,does research on it,draws conclusions and proposes suggestions by referring to literature,expert interviews,questionnaires,statistics and other methods.Research results:1.Associates degrees account for 0%;bachelor's degrees 96.7%;master's degrees 0.03%.Degrees of senior high school PE teachers in Rudong County reach the standard.Bachelor's degrees account for a higher proportion and master's degrees account for a smaller proportion.2.Titles of Nantong Academic Leaders account for 1.7%;titles of Nantong Core Teachers 3.3%;title of Nantong Rookie of Worship 3.3%;title of Rudong Core Teachers 16.7%;titles of Rudong Rookie of Worship 5%.3.Those who make use of spare time to do academic research only account for 10% and the majority of them choose leisure and entertainment.4.Only 26.7% of them have clear plans and goals for professional development and the rest(73.3%)have no clear plans and goals.5.Senior PE teachers in Rudong make independent professional development for different purposes.Those who want to promote their degrees account for 6.7%;those who intend to become experts in this subject account for 8.3%;those who intend to update subject knowledge account for 25%;those who want to get promotion of professional titles and posts account for 36.7%;those who want to get a rise of payment account for 16.6%;those who want to meet the demands of super departments in charge or schools account for 6.7%.6.100% of the PE teachers hold the opinion that weak awareness has restricted their independent professional development and awareness is the condition and base of development.57.1% of them suppose that they fail to do academic research due to heavy teaching load,too many chores and lack of time.Research conclusion: Senior high school PE teachers in Rudong County already have some basic professional development.In recent years there is a strong demand for professional development in most PE teachers and some have developed awareness and competence of professional development.Nevertheless,the majority of them are not fully aware of the importance of professional development,thus contributing to their passive reactions and casual attitudes.Meanwhile,lack of awareness and planning of professional development and failure to realize its importance in teaching career are holding back their professional development.
