In recent years,commodity trade in certain area as a starting point to cut into the southwest area society has become an important one of the methods of research in this area.The commodity is the foundation of maintaining economic operation in local society.At the same time,It is an reflection of regional economy,and has many effects on the spatial form and ethnic society.This article attempts to use “tung oil trade” of the Wu basin(mainly in the Wuyang River)as bonding point,around the three keywords “canal,traditional town and ethnic group society”,to reveal the internal logical relationship in the three elements of the Wu River.This paper mainly revolves four contents: First,it has introduced the natural environment and geographical conditions of the Wu River,and highlighted the geographic importance of the Wuyang canal in the border region of Guizhou and Hunan,which demonstrated its key position in the political and military,so as to express the important geographical features of the Wu River.Second,it has introduced materials distribution,planting situation and main usage of the tung so that elaborate congenital advantage of tung oil trade the and its market network system in the Wu River;Third,because of complementary relationship between tung oil trade and the traditional town,It is necess3 rry to take the most representative town Hongjiang as the center case to reflect the relationship,in which it has explored the important influence of tung oil trade for the traditional market town's rise and flourish;Fourth,analysis what an role the ethnic group play in tung oil trade,and exploring the influence that the economic bring for the ethnic group society in Guizhou and Hunan.Finally,by presenting above several aspects,this paper intends to discusses the regional characteristics of the Wu river tentatively,and seeks to bring the view and thought of “linear” across this important area.
