| The study attempts to explore the English learning beliefs of junior students in Xinjiang Neichuban,in order to provide advice beneficial to the English teaching and learning of junior students in Xinjiang Neichuban.The subjects are 136 minority students in the second grade from No.67 Middle School of Urumqi.Through questionnaires,the findings are as follow.First,most students emphasize the practice of articulation,and are willing to learning English through communicative strategies.They think the mistakes made at the beginning of English learning will impede their progress,and the way of repetition and reciting to learn English is more welcomed.Second,students are in some degree aware of the links between language and culture,but the learning of grammar and vocabulary still takes the first place.However,some students even think that learning English is to learn the translation between L1 and English.Third,almost everyone agrees that it’s necessary to learn English well with a strong motivation.Fourth,there is a big majority of them think that English is not difficult to learn,but still some special capability is needed to learn English well,and most students regards themselves as the capable one.Fifth,there is a significant relativity between students English achievements and their learning beliefs in different aspects except that of English learning aptitude.Based on theses findings,we have attained the following pedagogical enlightenment.First,as students are willing to learning English through communicative strategies,teachers can create more communicative situations in the classroom.Second,to ensure students’ learning activity,teachers should tell learners to treat mistake positively instead of just avoiding it.Third,in teaching process,teachers can introduce more cultural information ofEnglish language as well as cultural contrast to help students build up a complete recognition of language learning.Fourth,teachers should offer both effective guidance and encouragements to learners who encounter difficulties in English learning,try to maintain and enhance their learning confidence,give them both challenges and chances of success to make students believe that they are capable to learn English well. |
