As the basis of language input,listening is the foundation of the development of other language skills.It plays an important role both in communicative activities and English proficiency tests.So it should be taken seriously in English learning.High school students are in a significant period of listening learning.A good foundation of listening is crucial to their further learning.However,the present situation of senior high school students' English listening is unsatisfied due to various reasons.And there are a lot of problems existing in English listening.This paper focuses on listening comprehension obstacles of senior high school students under the guidance of schema theory and language learning strategies.It takes Liaocheng No.4 Senior High School as an example.By analyzing the results of the mid-term examination papers of senior one students and conducting interviews and questionnaires among senior high school students and English teachers,the author investigates the current situation of listening learning,analysis the manifestation of listening comprehension obstacles.The reasons and countermeasures of senior high school students' listening comprehension obstacles are explored.During the research,384 senior high school students take part in the questionnaire and examination results survey.In addition,6 English teachers and 18 students join in the interviews.This research revealed many obstacles in the process of listening comprehension.These obstacles are related to language knowledge foundation,background knowledge,learning strategies,listening materials and so on.Accordingly,based on the expounding and analyzing of the manifestations and reasons of listening comprehension obstacles,the countermeasures are provided,such as eliminating language barriers,building background knowledge,developing listening strategies,optimizing listening materials and so on.This study aims to promote students' English listening ability by exploring the presentations and solutions of English listening barriers among senior high school students.In addition,it also provides practical guidance for English listening teaching in senior high school.This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is introduction,which states thebackground,objectives and significance and structure of this study.Chapter two is literature review.Firstly,it gives a detailed narration of the studies about listening comprehension and listening comprehension obstacles at home and abroad respectively.Then,the theoretical foundation of schema theory and language learning strategies are expounded.Chapter three is the research design and data analysis which is the main part of the paper.It mainly involves the research questions,research objects,research instruments,research procedure,data collection and analysis.Chapter four is about the reasons and countermeasures of senior high school students' English listening comprehension obstacles.It contains summary and analysis of the reasons of listening comprehension obstacles in Liaocheng NO.4 Senior High School.Meanwhile,the corresponding solutions are put forward.The last chapter is the conclusion of this paper.The major findings are discussed in it.Then the shortcomings of this study and the prospects for further research are also pointed out.
