At most situations most teachers paid more attention to the vocabulary andgrammar learning rather than listening. Besides, the teaching modes are fixed andboring. The New Curriculum Standards proposed three targets for listening. Aiming atthe targets the English teachers began to regard improving listening comprehensioncompetence as the main research subject. Therefore, the thesis focuses on the idea of improving listening comprehension. The presentation was written after studying the relevant literature, doing theexperiment and collecting some first-hand information. Therefore two paralleledclasses in one senior high school in Changchun were chosen to do the experiment. Before the experiment, the author conducted a pre-test and a questionnaire. Theresults showed that the levels of listening of the two classes are the same. Then theauthor chose one of the classes as the experimental class and did the training in thisclass. The training period includes the articulation training, background informationtraining, and listening strategies training. The listening strategies include prediction, rough listening, note-taking and elimination. In conclusion, the experiment proved that these methods can help the studentsimprove the listening comprehension effectively. For thequestions about the judgments of behavior, prediction and note-taking are effective. For the questions about the details, prediction and note-taking are the two ways towork out this kind of question. Elimination is suitable for some particular questionstyles. For the questions about the reasons, rough listening and note-taking are the twoeffective ways. For the questions about the attitudes, prediction and note-taking arevalid. For the questions about the main idea, rough listening and note-taking areuseful.
