With the further development and application of Internet technology and mobile communication technology, mobile learning, fragmented learning began to become a normal situation for the adult learners.MOOC as the most popular form of online learning in in current time, after several years of development,MOOC has shown a number of shortcomings and disadvantages, and its low completion rate and high dropout rate of the online learner is an obvious disadvantage, which attract a lot of scholars and researchers' attention. The root cause of low completion rate and high dropout rate in MOOC is that the learners lack of learning motivation. In order to solve the low completion rate and high dropout rate in the MOOC courses, this study is devoted to the studyon motivational strategies on the instructional video for MOOC.First, this study use the content analysis method to analysis the existing MOOC instructional video, and extract the effective motivational strategies on the instructional video for MOOC.After deep study the John M.Keller's ARCS Motivation model, this study modified a strategy coding system which is suitable for MOOC instructional video analysis.According to the "MOOC Academy" scoring, this study select 8 MOOC courses to analysis(4 courses from high score and 4 courses from low score),and select 7-10 video clips in each MOOC course which finally selected 68 video clips as this study's coding statistic analysis sample.Using the coding system to encode each instructional video sample, through statistic the coding data and comparative analysis each courses, combine with the specific characteristics of the video,to explore the effective motivational strategies design.Second, apply part of the strategies to design and product the "Inatructional Design" MOOC video case.Using the coding system to encode and analysis the case video to test the planning use motivational strategies is being implementation or not.At the same time,we use the "Instructional video motivation questionnaire" to research the MOOC learners of "Instructional Design",so as to test the implementation effect of some motivational strategies. This study has been analyzed by coding, through analyzed the excellent MOOC instructional video and sum up 8 kinds of motivational strategy which totally including 16 specific strategies is as follows:(1)Flexible use A1(Perceptual Arousal)strategies, including A11(Are general principles, ideas,or other abstractions illustrated with concrete examples or visualizations)and A15(Are step-by-step procedures or relationships among concepts made more concrete by use of flow charts, diagrams, cartoons,or other visual aids).(2)Reasonable use A2(Inquiry Arousal)strategies, including A21(Are topics introduced or developed problematically)?A22(Is curiosity stimulated by provoking mental conflict)and A23(Is a sense of mystery evoked by describing unresolved problems which may or may not have a solution)(3)Flexible and richful use A3(Variability)strategies,including A31(Are a variety of typefaces used to highlight titles, quotes, rules, key words,etc)?A32(Are there variations in layout)?A33(Are there variations in types of material)and A35(Change the style of presentation, using body language).(4)Timely and appropriate use A4(Humor)strategies.(5)Flexible use R1(Goal Orientation)strategies, including R11(Is the immediate benefit of the instruction either stated or self-evident)and R13(Are some of the examples and exercises clearly related to the knowledge and skills that the students will need in the future).(7)Flexible use R3(Familiarity)strategies,including R31(Are there explicit statements about how the instruction builds on the learner's existing skills or knowledge).(8)Conscious use C(Confidence)strategies, including C22(Are methods for self-evaluation,such as answers to exercises, provided). And the effectiveness of seven motivational strategies such as A11,A15,A31,A32,R11,R27 and C22 has been tested by specific implementation. The innovation of this study have two points.First, this study use the quantitative way to anlysis the MOOC video through coding, and extracted the motivational strategies which commonly used in existing MOOC instructional video, which would provide guidance and reference for the majority MOOC course designers.Second, participate indesign and product the "Instructional Design" MOOC video, test the effectiveness of the motivation strategy that use in the "Instructional Design" course, which improve learning satisfaction of that course.
