Application of geographic information technology in high school geography teaching practice is not only the requirement to improve geography teaching mode,enhance teaching performance,increase student’s learning interest in geography,and cultivate student’s special thinking ability,but also the demand to realize sustainable development of teacher,teaching and education.Presently,the setup of various geography information network database,stronger operability of geographic information technology software,and the improvement of high school software & hardware teaching facilities have made it possible to apply geographic information technology in high school geography teaching practice.Based on the practice of high school geography teaching,the article applies research methods of induction,interview and teaching case study to analyze the function,principle,application mode and knowledge plate of geographic information technology application in high school geography teaching practice.Combining with real teaching case,the article has researched specific application modes of geographic information technology in high school geography teaching.Through the analysis of geographic information technology software and the course content and requirement of high school geography course,it finds that geographic information technology has teaching functions as spatial query and measurement,spatial data overlay analysis,buffer analysis,spatial statistical analysis,digital terrain model,dynamic monitoring,and geography teaching special drawings making.In teaching practice,principles of adaptation,step by step,and local features confirmation shall be confirmed to maximize geographic information technology’s effectiveness in high school geography teaching.In teaching contents,geographic information technology is appropriate in teaching of natural geography knowledge as motion of matter in natural environment and motion of atmosphere,ocean current,crustal movement,zonality and azonality in energy exchange as well as humanistic knowledge as population change,urban and urbanization,the formation and development of agriculture and industry areal type,formation and influence of traffic regional distribution.According to geographic information technology features,the article designs specific teaching cases as digital earth technology application in teaching of “earth revolution – sunrise bearing” and “significance of earth movement – terminator”,digital earth technology + GIS application in teaching of “contour line”,and remote sensing application in teaching of “urbanization” to discuss the realization process and pattern of geographic information technology’s application in high school geography teaching.Besides,it also analyzes the formation process and method of geography teaching special drawings in detail to improve high school geography teacher’s geographic information technology operation ability and apply geographic information technology in teaching practice more efficiently.
