Although our foreign language teaching has gained a lot of experience and advanced development,there are still many problems.Especially in junior high school English teaching,there still exist many deficiencies.This study intends to practice the method of cellphone recording in the English teaching and learning of middle school students and tries to find out whether cellphone recording is a feasible and effective tool for improving students’ oral English.The statements of the following questions will be given by the results of the experiment: 1)Can cellphone recording help the students cultivate interest and confidence in learning English? 2)Can cellphone recording help the students improve their oral English?The subjects involved in this experiment were 120 students in Tian Ren Middle School.The participants were divided into two equal classes.One class was taken as the experimental class and the other class as the control class.There were 59 students in the experimental class: 29 boys and 30 girls;while in the control class,there were30 boys and 31 girls.The author applied cellphone recording in English oral teaching in the experimental class while traditional English teaching was used in the control class.The two classes chosen in this research are average classes in Grade One,so the students’ level in English is almost the same.The number of segments in each class is the same and the number of boys and girls in the two classes is also basically the same,the students are almost 13-14 years old.Data of the experiment were collected from questionnaires,interviews,and tests.All the collected data were analyzed by SPSS analysis.Through the analysis on the experimental results,the following conclusions are drawn: 1)cellphone recording can help the students cultivate their interest and confidence in English learning;2)cellphone recording can help the students improve their oral English,that is to say,cellphone recording is really effective in English oral teaching.The results showed that although the effectiveness of cellphone recording in the experimental is obvious,there still exist some deficiencies of cellphone recording inEnglish oral teaching,such as time-consuming,complicated operation.All these problems need to be improved in further research.
