The overlap of optimal career development time and prime period of women fertility emerges with influence. It's detrimental for women to make career decisions with the disruption of pregnancy, delivery, lactation and raising babies. In China, the conflict between women career development and childbearing stayed latent and less visible due to the impact of the planned economic system and birth control policies. However, this conflict has been activated in the context of the rapid development of market economic system and the implementation of “Comprehensive two children”,and has gained some researchers attention.Existing research on the impact of universal two-child policy on women career mostly adopt qualitative method.Though these qualitative research induce thick description of the emerging phenomenon through acute events, the elements of in-depth,systematic empirical analysis are missing.Due to the short implementation period of the new birth control policy, previous research succumb to the limitation of focusing on the acute impact and losing track changes over time. This research aims to fill the gap by conducting the empirical study via quantitative research method.Data are collected through questionnaires and interviews with women who experienced the second child delivery in Nanchang.Based on the relevant literature and data collected through interviews, this paper proposes hypotheses and models, and sheds light on research path.Building on the existing theories on women career development, childbirth and women career, this research designs four dimensions including work performance, career expectation, career motivation, career environment to measure women career development. The survey questionnaire is designed after the analysis on factors inside different dimensions. An equation is obtained through the regression analysis on the collected data. The findings show that the influence of two-child on women career development is multiple-facets and significant.Last, the research investigates on the causes of this impact and identifies the roles that society, organizations, family and individual play in the process.Recommendations are provided. To sum up,this paper is an empirical study on the impact of two-child decisionon women career development. The study offers the practical implications with proposed suggestion and recommendations to reduce the negative impact, reinforce the protection on professional women's childbirth, and improve the effectiveness of universal two-child policy.
