| In the internet age,there are more and more international exchanges,thus English learning has become more and more important.As the basis for English learning,vocabulary learning also has become much more significant.It can be seen in china’s English language curriculum teaching plan.English is officially open in grade three in primary school.Also,the importance of vocabulary learning has been explicitly stipulated in new English curriculum standards for elementary school.Many researchers and educators have found that Situational Language Teaching has significant effect in vocabulary learning.At the same time,some researchers found that digital game with computer supporting can provide abundant virtual situations.The digital educational games are an effective means for vocabulary learning.Further study for Game Learning has found that just rely on the game situation is difficult to maintain learner’s attention for a long time,and pointed that sufficient consideration of personalized characteristics of learners as well as some adaptations for personalized characteristics of learners will better promote the learners’ learning in the game learning.While these factors have been realized,there are still a lot of deficiencies and defects in the field of vocabulary learning.Therefore,there is great theoretical and practical significance in the design and development to adapt to the personalized features of vocabulary learning games.For that reason,this study uses the methodology of literature analysis and the evaluation method as well as the existing game development tool,developed a vocabulary learning game that adapt to the learners’ vocabulary ability level.The game has the following four aspects.(1)Fundamental research: On the basis of combing,rearranging and analyzing relevant relative literature data,vocabulary learning,Adaptive game,Item response theory and the related theory of game design have been detailed discussed and summarized.Which determines the vocabulary difficulty value,Learners’ vocabulary ability level and recommended approach of vocabulary learning resources,thus further makes clear the strategy of designing and developing adaptive educational games for learners’ vocabulary ability level.(2)Build design model for adaptive vocabulary learning games.Analyze classic vocabulary learning games and related cases of adaptive games at home and abroad,then summarize the constructing idea and principle of the model.On such basis,use and improve the related factors of the model and the mutual contact pattern among the factors,finally build a design model for adaptive vocabulary learning game.(3)The development and the implementation of the mobile educational game: according to the design model,using the adaptive technology and being based on a related game development platform,the concrete game can be developed and then validate its practical application results.The above-mentioned research work leads to the following three research results:(1)Define,discuss and detailed illustrate the connotation of adaptation and adaptive game.Systematically account the relative theories in Game Development.This lays a theoretical foundation for the design and development of adaptive vocabulary learning games.(2)The study constructs a design model for adaptive vocabulary learning games.On the basis of comprehensively analyzing classic vocabulary learning games and related cases of adaptive games at home and abroad,construct a model for adaptive vocabulary learning games,then makes a detailed and in-depth analysis on the function and implementation method of all the components.(3)This study designed and developed an adaptive vocabulary learning game according to learners’ vocabulary ability level.It is based on 300 words in PEP primary school English textbooks,using the scientific and reasonable method to calculate the difficulty value of these words,and then established a game database.It also used Photoshop to deal with the pictures like game scene and it was developed by using Flash.Finally,the researchers used questionnaire to test the game effects.Due to the limited technical development capability of the researcher and the limited time of the research,while the game can reflect the original design intent and thoughts of the Researchers,there are still many problems and shortcomings.The researcher will work urgently continues on how to design and develop a better primary school English vocabulary adaptive learning game. |
