Prose is a comprehensive style when it becomes popular in the beginning of Qing Dynasty.Modern prose is originated in the period of "May Fourth",with migration and distribution of three decades from 1927 to victory of People’s Liberation War,it is applied to passionate social change and becomes the mainstream of the literary style and leads the mature modern prose form consciously due to broad spectrum of references,free form and sincere emotion.Works of modern prose can reflect the true face of social life and the various aspects of life keenly,extensively and directly.Writers of modern prose can express lyric spirit alone and view the world with naked eyes,they also can write life understanding with refined language,therefore,modern prose has become a literary form which is linked with the real life closely.From 1963,the Ministry of Education determines that the leading literature genre of Chinese textbooks is prose in the form of document.Because of the characteristics mentioned before,much attention are paid to prose in the language field which cannot be ignored in education and teaching activities.Through the form of docuement,the state also clearly requires students to read,comprehend,sense,think,understand the meaning of the works,absorb nutrients from the works,and to find a standard to regulate their own life.Modern prose has become an important literary style of cultivating students’ language literacy and improving aesthetic connotation because of its concise and rich literary language,pure and sincere emotion.However,in the practice of language teaching and learning,characteristics of Chinese literature are ignored,characteristics of different texts are blurred,confusing the value of literary texts is confused and also educational function of literary texts themselves are ignored.Therefore,modern prose,an important part of language teaching,descends to materials and tools of cultivate students to learn language,improve the ability of students to extract information and is criticized widely and modern prose teaching is in the position of inefficiency.On the one hand,national curriculum standards do not clearly explain what content should teach of modern prose teaching in the primary school language,junior middle school language and senior middle school language,or what specific teaching content should be taught to achieve national education of the subject in every stage,so there is the problem that teaching content is ambiguous,chaotic and difficult to determine.Uncertainty of teaching content directly leads to the mixture of modern prose with other styles of front-line teachers in teaching.They just interpret all proses with " loose appearance and not loose spirit ".On the other hand,many articles are selected in textbooks and they are of different styles,however,theory of teaching of prose reading is weak.Therefore,the grasping of the prose style is not clear,and teachers ignore the feelings contained in the works,do not pay attention to the wonderful languages of the text,just abstract and generalize the authors’ emotions.Meanwhile,under the influence of university entrance examination,teachers often make the examination outline of the modern prose as the teaching content and use a fixed test mode to learn modern prose in practice teaching.They ignore humanistic spirit conveyed by modern prose and also split the students’ realization of life personal experience in the works.Based on the above reasons,according to author’s thinking of the teaching inefficient of modern prose when teaching,direction of this paper is determined,that is the cause of inefficiency of teaching of modern prose.The paper consists of four parts.The first part is introduction,mainly mentioning reasons of study,domestic present situation on study,studying method and mean and value of study.The second part is the first chapter,determining the characteristics of modern prose based on the special character of literary style.The third part is the second chapter,focusing on the analysis of problems of modern prose teaching in senior middle school.The fourth part is the last chapter,analysizing the auses of inefficiency of teaching of modern prose in senior middle school.
