Against the background of vigorously promoting universal reading creating a literary home,it is of great urgency on how to improve the secondary school students reading ability.And there are specific requirements for extracurricular reading for junior school students in the Standard of Compulsory Education Language Curriculum.The requirements not only demand students to recite a certain class of poetry,also read some extracurricular books so that the students' language literacy can be continuously improved through reading,.At present,extracurricular reading for students in remote rural area is a serious problem no matter quality or quantity.They still have a long way to go compared with the requirements of the new curriculum.Thus the author choose this subject under the above mentioned circumstances.On the basis of studying the relevant research of Chinese extracurricular reading at home and abroad,combining the understanding of the meaning of extracurricular reading(such as the significance of promoting the comprehensive development: acquiring knowledge,potential realizing,cultivating sentiment and improving taste,etc.;The significance of the language literacy: developing good reading habits,forming reading ability,improving writing skills,etc.),taking Xinyuan Middle School in Huining County of Gansu Province as an example,through questionnaires,interviews,practical teaching observation,this paper analyzes the current situation of the reading of the Chinese textbooks for the junior middle school students in remote rural areas,and analyzes the existing problems,including backward concept in reading ideas,poor reading grade and reading environment,reading resources scarcity and lack of reading methods.And reading habits and reading evaluation system have not yet developed or established.On the basis of the clear understanding of the existing problems,the paper comes up with a targeted solution strategy through combining the actual situation of remote rural areas and a variety of reading theory.The strategy,on one hand,suggest the government to build rural libraries,schools to increase reading resources and families to invest more money to buy extracurricular reading books;on the other hand,upgrading reading concept,creating good reading atmosphere,introducing a variety of reading methods and establishing reading evaluation system are a must.The ultimate goal is to let the students in remote rural junior schools have books and know how to read,and thus love to read and enjoy reading.Furthermore,the overall quality of students in reading would be improved continuously.
