Most children with autism have facial expression recognition disorder, it make them unable to discern and respond to the emotions of others, communicate with others, cause a certain impact to autistic children's social skills,even derived from other social problems, it is of great significance to improve the social communication ability of autistic children by studying the intervention method to improve the ability of facial expression recognition in autistic children and verifying its effectiveness. At present,Avatar technology has been applied intervention for autistic children in foreign country,this kind of intervention has a strong compassion(co-feeling),a great effect of migration generalization, is very convenient to shape the image, it provides a new idea for the intervention study of facial expression recognition of children with autism.The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the intervention therapy based on Avatar technology can improve the ability of facial expression recognition in children with autism or not. The research is mainly divided into two parts, first from the perspective of practice, according to theory of facial expression recognition in autistic children, empathy - systematic theory, social learning theory, situational teaching theory,visual support strategies, design and develop a system of facial expression recognition based on Avatar technology for the intervention of children with autism. This system through situational teaching method, integrated the facial expression features of children with autism into Avatar cartoon characters, intervened for happy, surprise, sad and angry four basic facial expression recognition ability of autistic children, and used the game in the system for the evaluation the ability of facial expression recognition of children with autism.Secondly, in order to verify the effectiveness of the system on the facial expression recognition disorder of autistic children, we select four children with autism and carry out the empirical study for a period of two and a half months. In the intervention study,the independent variable of this intervention is the facial expression recognition system based on Avatar technology,the dependent variable is autistic children's facial expression recognition ability. Through interviews, observation and experiment analysis, we collect the data of baseline, intervention, stability experiment three stages, then analyze the data by C statistical and visual analysis, find the results as follows: it has a certain effect and maintaining to improve the four basic facial expression recognition ability of children with autism by using the intervention system.In addition, this paper summarizes the existing problems and shortage in this research, suggestions for further in the future, Avatar technology will be applied to all aspects of the intervention of children with autism, this kind of research will be really used for the intervention in domestic children with autism.
