| Marketability and employability of fresh-new graduates from technical and vocational colleges has been a top public agenda for a long time,and academic community pays attention.In the meanwhile,how to prepare graduates for the employment is on the agenda for vocational colleges.Based on the available data from 2013-2015 graduates of Institute W Vocational College in Suzhou,this paper analyzes the between-group differences in terms of employability and degree of skills matching for fresh graduates from vocational college probability regression designed for discrete dependent variables is the method in use for data analyses.The results show that significant difference for employability between graduates specializing in liberal arts science or engineering cannot be detected;however,gender disparities favoring female graduates are found in this sample,students whose foreign language for non-native speaker is Japanese and whose place of birth registration permit is not Suzhou where Institute W is located,enjoy better chance of being employed.It is also found that gender and category of foreign language-skills acquired do not show any significant impacts on employability and skills-matching for graduates from W vocational college,however,general pattern of between-group difference in job-learning matching appears between graduates specializing in liberal arts and science/engineering,the latter category performs better on the first-jobs,while local graduates whose origins are Suzhou perform much worse compared to their counterparts.The paper concludes with suggestions that the community and school should jointly play an active and guiding role in supporting and facilitating the smoothness of labor market conditions for fresh graduates from vocational colleges considering the large-scale expansion of education service in this sector,while students enrolled in this type of institutes should equipped themselves with decent marketability and capability for free choice. |
