The Communicative Language Teaching(CLT)is a teaching method which takes students as the center of learning and fosters students' language learning ability through different kinds of teaching activities.Since it was introduced to China in1970 s,it has been practiced and developed in the stage of higher education.But with the implementation of the new curriculum,training the students' integrated competence in language usage and using strategies effectively have also become the main objectives in the stage of fundamental education.Vocabulary is one of the foundations for understanding and using a language and English vocabulary teaching plays an important role in all aspects of students' English learning.There is no doubt that vocabulary has become a major factor that prevents students from improving their English level.How to effectively improve the efficiency of students' vocabulary and adopt effective strategies of teaching vocabulary to help them learn and consolidate vocabulary have become issues worth thinking and researching.Through the intensive research and study on the CLT,this thesis attempts to apply CLT to English vocabulary teaching in Senior High and tries to find the answers for these three questions:Can CLT arouse students' interests in English vocabulary learning after they were taught by CLT?Can students' vocabulary proficiency be improved by adopting CLT in class?Can CLT make a positive influence on vocabulary learning strategies?The experiment is conducted for four months in Jinzhou NO.2 senior high school from September,2016 to December,2016.The subjects are 82 students from two classes in grade 1.They are randomly choosen as the experiment class and the control class respectively.The experimental class is exposed to the CLT theory while the control class is exposed to the traditional teaching method.The data is collected by the means of tests,questionnaires and interview and analyzed by the help of SPSS19.0.The results from the experiment indicate that CLT can effectively improve students' vocabulary proficiency and their interests of learning English and CLT can also make a positive influence on vocabulary learning strategies.
