Language communication is an important aspect of language acquisition.However,classroom reticence severely impacts the effect of language acquisition.Many teachers attribute the classroom reticence to the Chinese people's inherent character which is hard to change.As a matter of fact,it is found that classroom reticence has severely impacted the effects of the students' learning and the teachers' teaching.Therefore,in order to improve the current situation of classroom reticence in junior high school English classroom,we should explore it more thoroughly and comprehensively.By taking Yantai No.3 Middle School as a case study,and by adopting observations,questionnaires and interviews,the study attempts to explore the phenomenon of classroom reticence and some important factors that may lead to the phenomenon of classroom reticence.This study aims to discuss two questions:(1)What's the current situation of classroom reticence in junior high school English class? Are there any differences in the degree of reticence concerning different genders,grades and English capabilities?(2)What are the main causes of classroom reticence for students of different genders,grades and English capabilities?This study has arrived at the following conclusions:(1)Classroom reticence is very common in junior high school English class,and the degree of reticence is affected by different grades and English capabilities.(2)The main causes of the classroom reticence vary for students of different grades and English capabilities.As it is indicated by this study,different genders produce no impact on the degrees of classroom reticence.Obviously,it is only by finding out the main factors that may lead to classroom reticence that we can work out the effective countermeasures to cope with it.
