Action Research On Stratified English Reading Teaching In Rural Junior Middle School

Abstract/Summary:
In the writer’s school,the students come from different places and the gap among them in English levels is so big that they cannot adopt the only-one plan reading classes.For the better students,the tasks in classes are easy,but for the average or slow learners,the tasks are sometimes difficult to follow.They all cannot acquire new reading skills in the classes.So the teachers are so tired but have no way to change this situation.Focusing on this problem,I want to apply the Stratified English Reading Teaching in our junior middle school.Basing on the levels of the students,the writer divides the students into three groups,LA,LB&LC.The students of different levels are not announced in public and the groups are adjusted momentarily with the changing of the reading proficiency.Both in English reading classes and after-class reading,the writer does her best to design different level tasks to fit the three level groups respectively,trying to promote each student’s reading skills.Before the reading classes,the writer designs some tasks of different levels for different students to prepare them for the reading;Then the writer draws the students’eyes in different leading-in ways;While the students reading,the writer mainly trains the students’ reading strategies.Students of different levels have different steps;After reading,the writer designs different tasks for different students to consolidate the reading skills that they have learned in classes.The guidance after class is also important.The writer introduces different English reading materials to the students of different levels,asks them to complete different reading tasks and the writer should encourage the lower level students to challenge the higher level reading materials;Students of different levels are asked to write down different number of new words,expressions and sentences in their after-class reading notes.As for the evaluation methods,the writer suggests establishing a diversified evaluation system.Some new methods will be taken in.Through the analysis of the students’ test results with SPSS,we find that this method can improve the students’ reading skills.On the one hand,the Stratified English Reading Teaching is applied well and the students get good results.On the other hand,it has also caused some problems during the research.To deal with them,the writer shares three auxiliary systems.By taking students into after-class reading,the writer finds that they show more interest in reading and would like to spend more time on it.
