| Wushu,is one of the traditional sports of China,and has a long history.It focuses on a person’s external and internal fitness,in the form of attacks and gestures.There are many benefits that can be gained by elementary students learning Wushu as it helps students develop a strong personality,an indomitable will,physical and mental development,as well as raising their awareness of their traditional Chinese cultural inheritance and development.In 1995 Wushu martial arts was included into China’s Ministry of Education’s teaching syllabus which detailed the hours of instruction for all levels of a school’s curriculum.The 2004 Ministry of Education-issued directive,“Primary and Secondary School Implementation Outline to Carry forward and Cultivate the National Spirit” called for a modest increase in Wushu teaching content in physical education to further the popularity and development of Wushu activities in primary and secondary schools.Starting in 2010 the Ministry of Education and the State General Administration of Sports jointly created and defined a “National Primary and Secondary School Students Wushu Fitness Exercise” for promotion and implementation in the national primary and secondary schools.The inheritance and development of Wushu activities targeting youth is its main focus.At present,the successful promotion and popularization of Wushu in youth is not at all optimistic.Wushu activities carried out at schools are faced with bottlenecks and impediments to development.Through a thorough investigation and analysis of documents,surveys,expert interviews,statistics,and surveys of students carried out in Chaoyang District public schools,a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the present development situation of Wushu activities for students in Chaoyang District,a paper drew the following conclusions:1.School’s establishment of Wushu classes is not optimistic and teaching rates are low;2.Wushu course teaching objectives in general terms lack specificity;3.The use of traditional teaching methods,and content,provide a lack of student interest and are unable to motivate students;4.Teaching evaluation forms do not reflect the entire scope of teaching;5.Wushu drill penetration is low,as is teacher and student Wushu knowledge;6.Establishment of Wushu social clubs and teams is relatively few,student and parents awareness of class and training activities is lacking.7.Chaoyang District lacks Wushu competitions and cultural content.8.There is a Wushu teacher shortage in Chaoyang District primary schools and little professional training.9.Wushu in Chaoyang primary schools lack equipment,establishments,and various types of Wushu curricular activities.To resolve these problems,the following recommendations were put forward:First,in the Chaoyang District,all primary and secondary schools should organize more Wushu lectures and publicity,improve the Department of Education and the importance of school leadership in Wushu courses,and develop a Wushu centered society,and Wushu teams.Secondly,written the physiological and psychological development characteristics for Wushu primary school teaching materials,follow the pupils interest,add martial arts culture,moral cultivation and other content,provide rich forms and methods of martial arts courses.Third,organize more district and school-level martial arts activities and competitions to promote interregional student exchanges.Fourth,organize regular professional training for Wushu teachers,improve teachers’ professional skills,promote exchange of experience between Wushu teachers.Finally,increase investment in professional Wushu venues,equipment,optimize the allocation of resources,and ensure the conditions for Wushu activities are properly carried out. |
