Parents are the first teachers of their children,who imitate their parents mostly when they have to adjust their emotion.Both international and domestic studies have shown that parents play an important role in the development of the children's emotion regulation.The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between parental meta-emotion philosophy and their children's emotion regulation strategies,and the mediating role of the parenting styles as well.This study randomly selected 550 children from the third grade to ninth grade in a Nine year compulsory education school of Shanghai and their parents as the subjects of the questionnaire.Parental meta-emotion philosophy was tested by parent's self-report,and parenting styles and emotion regulation strategies were tested by children's report.The results show:1)Parental Meta-Emotion Philosophy was affected by their self variable,such as sex,education level and China One.Maternal emotion coaching philosophy was more significantly higher than paternal emotion coaching philosophy.Parents with bachelor degree or above were significantly lower than those with bachelor degree or less on the score of parent emotion dysfunction philosophy.One-child parents were significantly lower than non one-child parents on the score of parent emotion noninvolvement philosophy.2)Parental Meta-Emotion Philosophy is affected by their children's sex,age and one-child.Boy's parents were more significantly higher than girl's parents on the score of parental emotion noninvolvement philosophy and parental emotion dismissing philosophy.Parents of pupils were more significantly higher than those of junior middle school students on the score of parental emotion dismissing philosophy.Parents of non one-child were significantly higher than those of one-child on the score of parental emotion noninvolvement philosophy.3)Emotion Regulation Strategies were affected by children's age and sex.Junior middle school students used more weakening regulation strategies(e.g.reappraisal and suppression)than pupils in negative emotion.Boys used more enhanced regulation strategies(e.g.rumination and revealing)than girls in negative emotion.4)Parenting Styles were affected by children's age and sex.Parents of pupils were significantly lower than those of junior middle school students on the score of positive parenting styles and more significantly higher on the score of negative parenting styles.Boys' parents were significantly higher than girls' parents on the score of negative parenting styles.5)Parenting Styles mediated between parental meta-emotion philosophy and children emotion regulation strategies.In the face of positive emotion,both positive and negative Parenting styles influenced children's positive emotion regulation strategies,but positive parenting styles were influenced by parental emotion coaching philosophy and negative parenting styles were influenced by parental emotion dysfunction,noninvolvement and dismissing philosophy.In the face of negative emotion,Positive Parenting styles influenced by parent emotion coaching philosophy influenced children's weakening regulation strategies(e.g.reappraisal and suppression).Negative Maternal rearing styles influenced by maternal emotion dysfunction,noninvolvement and dismissing philosophy influenced children's enhanced regulation strategies(e.g.rumination and revealing).
