Improving the quality of teaching is the core task of the development of higher education.The quality of higher education,to a great extent,depends on the quality and efficiency of classroom teaching.Classroom is the main channel of college teaching,and college students are important participants in college classroom teaching activities.College students' classroom engagement refers to the status of their engagement into classroom teaching and activities.It not only includes the explicit behavioral that students show in the classroom,but also their engagement in cognition and emotion.The students' classroom engagement consists of three dimensions: cognitive engagement,emotion engagement and behavioral engagement.The degree of classroom engagement of college students refers to how much they are involved in cognition,emotion and behavioral in classroom study.In the process of the study,documentary method has been used to search documents related to student engagement and classroom engagement in the network resources,CNKI Chinese paper journals database and EBSCO English database,as well as the library resources.Then sort out and read the files to have a better standing of the previous research results,thus providing a reference for the preparation of the survey and a theoretical basis for the study,through with the research content has been decided.Then interviewing method has been used.An interview outline combined with the survey data,has been used to have in-depth interviews of college students,thus forming a profound understanding of the situation of class engagement in different angles,and deciding the content of the scale;Finally,the questionnaires of College Students' classroom engagement Scale and The Personal Influence Scale of College Students' classroom engagement have been used to investigate and understand the current situation as well as analyze the problems in classroom investment,and then put forward specific suggestions accordingly.The scales have good consistency of reliability and validity.The research found that among the three dimensions of college students' engagement,the degree of behavioral engagement is the highest,cognitive engagement is the second,and emotion engagement is the lowest.College students' behavioral and cognitive engagement are more than that of emotional.Classroom engagement shows differences in gender,grade,major,class roles they played,academic performance and other factors.Overall,the level of college students is relatively low and should be improved.Besides there exist many problems which mainly contain three areas: First,cognitive engagement: poor regulation of plan,learning dependence,inadequate reflection and inflexible learning.Second,emotional engagement: students' lack in learning interest and lack of internal motivation;Third,behavioral engagement: poor concentration and lack of class discussion.The elements of college students' engagement include their interest in the course,parents' expectations,self-expectations,academic achievement,etc.The elements of their distraction from class include inadequate pre-class preparation,incomprehension of the content and their worries about criticism.In view of the problems existing in the classroom engagement of college students,the following suggestions have been put forward in order to improve the level of students' engagement,: cultivating learning strategies to improve students' ability of self-learning;creating reflective learning situation to guide students to reflect;stimulating students to be curious to cultivate intrinsic motivation;setting appropriate difficulty for tasks to enhance the sense of accomplishment;improving teachers' teaching ability and students' learning focus;and strengthening the sense of responsibility and improving the engagement in discussion.
