In recent years,learning English is becoming more and more important in China,however,there is lack of real language environment for students to learn English.There are various ways for language input,among which reading is the most important one.Therefore,reading instruction plays a vital important role in English language teaching,and enhancing students’ reading ability is a significant teaching aim in reading instruction.At present,reading teaching is still much influenced by the traditional language teaching model,such as common teaching outline,common requirements,common rate of progress and single teaching method,and teaching effect is not very good.Meanwhile,it is difficult for traditional language teaching model to solve the problem of individual differences among students,which has been a teaching difficulty in English reading teaching.Hence,there is an urgent need to provide students a more effective reading model.In English reading class,applying stratified teaching model can solve the above problem.It can well adapt to the individual differences among students and pointedly guide students to learn to read with purposes so as to get each student fully developed.Based on the above situation,this thesis starting from the theoretical basis of stratified teaching model mainly discusses the application of stratified teaching model in English reading teaching in senior high school by analyzing reading operating models and the importance of reading teaching.Taking two classes of grade one in a senior high school,Shaanxi Province,as research objectives,questionnaire,tests and interview are adopted in this thesis to collect data.Through analysis the reading scores of experimental class and regular class,also take students’ performance during the teaching process into consideration,the experimental result shows that the stratified teaching model can improve senior high school English reading teaching more effective than traditional teaching model,not only improve students’ reading interest,but also improve their learning initiative,and reduce the polarization among students.In conclusion,the stratified teaching model can effectively promote students’ learning as well as teacher’s instruction,and it has a positive impact on the English reading teaching in senior high school.
