Studying on ideological issues of the English textbook can both enrich the theory connotation of English textbook researches and broaden the perspective of English curriculum theory.This paper builds two-dimensional structure to analyze the ideology of English textbooks on the basis of the ideology concept and ideology theory.The paper uses the method of text analysis to explore the ideological characteristics of English textbooks.Based on the conclusions,the paper put forward rationalization proposals to strengthen ideological control from aspects of textbook compilation,textbook authorization,as well as classroom instruction.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part analyzes the basic content of the "ideology","textbook" and "English textbook" to clarify the basic content of these concepts.This part also analyzes the presentation of ideology in English textbooks and also the analytic framework of the paper.It is the necessary preconditions for the research.The second part explains the theory of ideology,including the idea about ideology and curriculum offered by Michael W.Apple,the theory written by Michael Young and also cultural capital theory held by Pierre Bourdieu.This part provides theoretical support for the paper.The third part is the ideological analysis of high school English textbooks.This part based on text,illustrations and layout structure as the object to analyze.It not only analyzes the theme(about what kind of ideology)but also analyzes the body(about whose ideology).This study focuses on cultural ideology,scientific ideology,ecological ideology as well as gender ideology which are clearly reflected in English textbooks.It revealed the ideology content and character in English textbooks.The last part bases on the ideological analysis of English textbooks and draws relevant conclusions.Ideology does exist in English textbooks and it is invisible and diverse.It puts forward that the perspective of ideology should be introduced in compiling and examining English textbooks;the teacher should play a role of value guidance and use the English textbooks critically.The ultimate goal is that the ideology in English textbooks can be expressed reasonably.
