As one of the most popular learning strategies,it is indispensable for every student to acquire note-taking strategy well.In senior high school,students have studied some knowledge about note-taking.However,what’s the overall situation of the application of note-taking strategy for senior high school students,and we need to picture that overall situation,so as to provide English teachers reliable information according to the situation of the application of note-taking strategy to help students improve their level of using note-taking strategy and achieve the objective of efficient note-taking in English lessons.Based on that,we embark this research from the application situation of note-taking in English lecture for senior high school students,exploring the overall situation and difference of the application level among different student groups,so that English teachers can have a keen insight into the overall situation of applying note-taking strategy,and provide individual instruction to students in the future.This research investigates the situation of applying note-taking strategy for senior high school students from six aspects,including their attitude toward note-taking,opinions about the function of note-taking,opinions about the technique of note-taking,the allocation of attention while simultaneously doing note-taking,the review of note-taking,the instruction in note-taking from English teachers.We collect students and teachers’ response to these items through questionnaire and interview,and the data is collected and classified for further process,to find the difference of the application of note-taking among different student groups.Finally,we find that:(1)A majority of students have realized the importance of note-taking in English learning,and have learned some basic techniques of note-taking.Yet,most of them only review notes before exams and English teachers provide little instruction in note-taking.(2)There are some differences of the application of note-taking in some aspects among some student groups.For example,female students have an even more positive attitude toward note-taking than male students,and female students use techniques of note-taking better than male students.Students in Grade Two show the most positive response to the instruction in note-taking from English teachers,and students in Grade One are in the opposite side.Compared with students with lower English level,students with higher English level perform better in using techniques of note-taking.(3)Most of English teachers are lacking in knowledge related to note-taking theory,most of them only know some basic techniques of note-taking,so they can only provide limited guidance.Based on the findings,this paper finally comes up with some suggestions for teachers to assist students to improve their level of note-taking:(1)English teachers should provide individual instruction in note-taking in the light of different characteristics and English proficiency of students.(2)English teachers should stress the regular review of notes instead of reviewing notes only before exams,so as to play the full effects of note-taking.(3)English teachers should learn more theoretical knowledge about note-taking,and then provide students with effective instruction and comments on note-taking.
