Listening comprehension is a complex and active process in which listeners use various listening strategies to construct meaning from aural input. The study was classroom-based and focused on the effects of the note-taking strategy training on English listening comprehension in Chinese senior high schools, using pre-test and post-test method. According to the average listening scores of entrance examination for senior high schools, 97 students were divided into three classes. To ensure a more valid study, I assigned the three classes to one of the three groups randomly. Class One (N=33) was the experimental group, Class Two (N=29) the control one and Class Three (N=35) the paper-testing one. At first, the pre-test paper and the post-test paper tested the paper-testing group separately on September 5th, 2004. The results of t-value showed that the difference between the two scores obtained by the paper-testing group was not obvious, which meant that the difficulty between the two test papers was more or less the same. The students in the experimental group and the control group took the pre-test on September 9th, 2004. The results of t-value showed that the difference between the scores of the experimental group and the control one in the pre-test was not obvious. Then after fourteen weeks' note-taking strategy 3P2E training when listening, the students in the experimental group and the control one took the post-test on December 15th, 2004. The average score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control one, which had statistical significance. We could infer that the note-taking strategy training had good effects on improving the listening comprehension level of the students.The present study not only has provided authentic experimental data to the study of the note-taking strategy training, especially on the topic of "English listening teaching in Chinese senior high schools", but also has the following pedagogical implications: Firstly, English teachers should alter the present teaching method of "testing" listening.
