Listening is an important language input skill, and it has always been valued by teachers and scholars. As the educational conditions improve, an increasing number of provinces have made listening a big part(around 30%) of the National Matriculation English Test(NMET), and it is the tendency that listening test will be applied to NMET nationwide. Many English teachers have spent plenty of time teaching listening and instructing students to exercise, but the result is far from satisfactory. On the one hand, students don’t see their grades greatly improved, on the other hand, they find themselves less interested in, and even worse, hostile to listening class. It is clear that there exists some problems in traditional listening teaching. Then what is the best solution to teaching? This problem has been suffering English teachers for a long time.Interactive teaching approach is a student-oriented teaching approach, which breaks the traditional teacher-centered class mode. It emphasizes the interaction between not only teachers and students, but also students and students, and it enables students to find problems and acquire knowledge through communication and interaction. This approach is in accord with the cores of English communicative capability which bases on input and output skills. In this paper, the author attempts to apply the interactive teaching approach to listening teaching so as to find an efficient listening teaching model. This paper deals with three questions: 1. Can the interactive teaching approach improve students’ interests in listening? 2. Can the approach improve students’ listening scores? 3. Can the approach improve students’ spoken English scores? The study applies quantitative and qualitative analysis. The 80 participants of the experiment come from the Senior High School of Tieling County in Tieling, Liaoning province. They are divided into two groups(the experiment class and the control class). The experiment lasts for 16 weeks. The students in the experiment class will be taught with interactive teaching approach, while those in control class keep learning with traditional teaching approach. The experiment data will be collected through questionnaire, test and interview. The test papers used are from the NMET of Canton and Liaoning province. After the experiment, the data will be analyzed by SPSS.The experiment results manifest that the interactive teaching approach can improve students’ listening interests as well as listening grades. What is more, after studying in the interactive listening class for a semester, the students’ spoken English grades also improved although it is a little. There are still some disadvantages in this research which need to further study in the future, but it is certain that it will be helpful to improve students’ language input and output ability when the teacher adopts interactive teaching approach during the process of listening teaching. |
