Chinese higher vocational education has seen a great development over the past ten years.Of the development,no less than six months' field work practice for each higher vocational college student is a national education policy, with the purpose of helping the students to shift from the role of a student to that of a professional. This policy pushes these green-handed students directly to societal challenges, professionally in particular. It is a fact that higher vocational college students' extensive internship has become a big social concern. And those interns make a new social group which should evoke wide attention. For the reasons of accomplishing college education as well as impressing potential employers during a life stage of pursuing role identity, interns from higher vocational colleges encounter more or less role conflict.Serious role conflict can cause serious consequences.Role discontinuity is one of them, which can be a too intense stress for troubled student to cope with, usually alone.Though tutors back at school and supervisors on job spot should be of some help, yet the effect turns out to be unsatisfying.Failure to deal with role discontinuity at this stage can lead to further failure to perform later life tasks. Thus it is social work's responsibility to answer to this calling.Based on role theories of sociology, the ABC theories of psychology,as well as communication theories, the thesis adopts qualitative research methods like observation, interview and action, and studies on helping the interns out of predicament of role conflict via social case work.By depicting the interns' role and psychological features, the thesis then categorizes their role conflicts into four types: intra-role conflict,inter-role conflict,extra-role conflict, and conflict between personality and role. For each type,an account of reasons is provided, which lay theoretical foundation for the study of case work intervention in the case.In the study of intervention in the case, firstly,a full process of the study is displayed, from intake and information collection, clarifying problems, signing oral work agreement, setting up work objectives and plan, implementation, down through to case closure and assessment.Methodologically, two therapeutic methods were adopted to help the client at different stages. They are task-center therapy in the former stage and rational emotive therapy in the latter.Technically, case work meetings functioned well, and WeChat video meeting for one time was a worthwhile attempt.Along the whole helping process,a full case record was made, which lays solid foundation for the thesis to have come into being. After the closure and assessment of the case work intervention, the thesis draws conclusions, and then introspects on both theoretical and empirical study of the intervention for social case work and its researchers. It is concluded that, with its unique strengths like emphasis on client's personal value and esteem, acceptance and no judgment, client self-determination,apart from its therapeutic meetings, social case work helps intern student walk out of role conflict in an irreplaceable way by linking social resources and striving for social support.Reflectively, awareness of social responsibilities for social issues in the study, proper treatment mode choice in social case work intervention, and universalities found in particular case work are three major findings. Moreover, suggestive conclusions are also drawn from the study for social workers in intervening in the issue of the kind.
