A new round of examination and enrollment system reform has been carried out in the pilot,Followed by the examination and enrollment system reform related curriculum standards and the corresponding textbooks are also planning to recompile. The chemistry textbook used in high school is reformed from the old version, which is complicated, difficult, partial and old.In order to meet the needs of the reform of examination and enrollment system, whether is it needed to adjust a new round of high school chemistry textbooks accordingly? In order to solve this problem,we must first understand how the content of chemistry textbook difficulty is,then comparative study is the best way to know it.By comparing the difficulty of textbooks in different regions, the characteristics of the textbooks in mainland China are investigated, which provide the basis for the compilation of new textbooks. In this study,we used the Content analysis to compare the contents of the senior chemistry textbooks across the Taiwan Strait drawing lessons from the perspective of "learning difficulty assessment tools of Chemistry Textbook" developed by Dr.Chen Yan.By comparison, the content difficulty of textbooks in mainland China is in the lower-middle level and the content difficulty setting is not reasonable enough, the specific performances are as follows.(1)The content difficulty of the senior chemistry textbooks in mainland China is lower than those in Taiwan.(2)The content breadth, depth and quantification of the senior chemistry textbooks in mainland China are lower than those in Taiwan.Among them, the content quantification is the most prominent.(3)The content range, content depth and content quantification of Compulsory Chemistry in mainland China are lower than those in Taiwan.(4)The content breadth, content depth and content quantization of elective chemistry in mainland China are lower than that of elective chemistry in Taiwan.(5)The study also found that, from the point of the content of thetextbooks(knowledge, experiments, exercises)to see,Taiwan`s textbooks is much higher in the level of experimental inquiry, experimental quantization. The research obtains the following edification. In terms of knowledge, the mainland textbook can select the high school chemistry content, integrate similar knowledge, appropriately add the quantization of contents, and reasonably set the experiment quantization degree gradient in compulsory course of Chemistry and elective course of Chemistry. In the aspect of experiments,it should improve the inquiry level of experiments, and set the exploration level gradient of compulsory and elective courses reasonably. In the aspect of exercises,we should set up the cognitive level of the exercises and the gradient of mathematical difficulty in exercises reasonably.
