The Research Of Wang Jiqian's Appraisal And Collection About Chinese Ancient Paintings

Wang Jiqian is a modern connoisseur and collector for Chinese and even the world civilization,as he has seen and collected thousands of Chinese ancient painting and calligraphy.In the first half of 20th century,Wang Jiqian engaged in the Palace Museum's art appraisal and collection together with other Chinese experts;in the second half of 20th century,he migrated to America with his all collections,which made foreign scholars started to understand the charm of Chinese traditional painting and calligraphy indeed.In this paper,we study Wang Jiqian's domestic collecting experience and influence from his family origin,inherited relations,collecting experience,and also some preserved works including his appraisal and collection style and orientation.Based the appraisal and collection activities of the first half of 20th century,we focus on discussing the interaction between Wang Jiqian and his American friends,Private collectors,antique dealers of calligraphy and painting,auction companies,museums and universities.Then,we can analyze Wang Jiqian's special part different from others,and his influence of the Chinese ancient calligraphy and painting collection and appraisal,which embodies Wang Jiqian's important role in the western study process of Chinese history of ancient calligraphy and painting.
